Learning outcomes:
After successfully completing this module, students will be able to grasp and understand physical phenomena and describe them mathematically. Based on this, they will be able to simulate engineering problems numerically and analyze and critically evaluate the results. Another competence is the operation and handling of simulation software such as Comsol Multiphysics.

Module content:
- Basics of Matlab/Octave and Simulink (repetition or short introduction) - Dynamic systems with ordinary differential equations - Introduction to the Finite Element method - Derivation of the mathematical description of various physical-technical processes (ordinary and partial differential equations) such as heat conduction, structural mechanics and their implementation and numerical simulation using software tools - Mathematical modeling - Application of free and commercial FE-simulation tools (e.g. Comsol Multiphysics)
