Workload:
Workload of student for successfully completing the course. Each ECTS credit represents 30 working hours. These are the combined effort of face-to-face time, post-processing the subject of the lecture, exercises and preparation for the exam.

The total workload is distributed on the semester (01.04.-30.09. during the summer term, 01.10.-31.03. during the winter term).
60 class hours (= 45 clock hours) over a 15-week period.
The total student study time is 150 hours (equivalent to 5 ECTS credits).
There are therefore 105 hours available for class preparation and follow-up work and exam preparation.

Learning outcomes:
After completing this course, students will be able to:
 - recognize the core fundamental principles of international human resource management and to take these principles into account when structuring practical personnel management procedures in an international context
 - assess specific national cultural environments from the viewpoint of corporate culture and corporate strategic requirements and to draw relevant conclusions for IHRM
 - structure the central areas of IHRM activity in terms of the methodology and control of decision-making processes; students will learn about human resource management and its methods with special emphasis placed on national and international aspects of manpower management

The conceptual frame of reference of IHRM:
 - Changes in the social and economic environment
 - The characteristics of cultural context: Intercultural comparative research
- Corporate strategy, corporate culture, and international staffing strategy
 
Areas of activity in IHRM:
 - Manpower resourcing needs and personnel recruitment planning in international companies
 - Pre-employment screening procedures in international companies
 - Transnational deployment of personnel (foreign postings and reintegration of expatriates on return)
 - Personnel management (motivation) in an international context
 - Personnel development and career planning in international companies
 - Performance appraisal (employee rating schemes) and performance targets as management instruments for personnel deployment and personnel development in international companies
 - International remuneration, particularly compensation for employees deployed internationally
 - Organization of human resource management in international companies
 
Industrial relations in international companies:
 - National co-determination (employee participation) models; cross-country comparison of the influence of unions on corporate decision-making
 - Industrial relations management
